Zhou Mingrui opened his eyes to a ceiling he didn't recognize. Gas lamps flickered on the walls, casting dancing shadows across faded wallpaper. The sheets were coarse linen, not the cotton he remembered.
Where am I?
He tried to sit up. His body felt wrong — thinner, weaker. He raised his hands and stared. These weren't his hands.
